Day 1 – Arrival in Skopje
Arrival at Skopje Airport and meet with local guide on arrival gate. Transfer to Skopje.
Arrival and sightseeing of Skopje old bazaar, which is interlaced with narroow coblestoned streets full with small craftsmen shops, where you can feel the orient. After passing the old 15th century Stone Bridge we’ll enter the Skopje main city square to with lots od monuments of the Macedonian revolutionaries who struggled for freedom. Follows a “meeting“ with one of the most famous Skopje citizen Mother Theresa, who was been born and raised in Skopje. We’ll visit her memorial house and closely learn about her humanitarian story. We suggest an evening stroll afterwards in order to experience the local bohemiam Skopje life. Overnight in hotel in Skopje.
Day 2 – Skopje - St. Panteleimon – Tetovo – Kalista – Ohrid
After the breakfast we will start our day with a visit of St. Panteleimon 12th century church where frescoes are considered as the “greatest achivements of Byzantine art” and even some experts say that here is the begining of the renaissance in the religious art, 150 years before Italian early renaisance. We continue our way towards Tetovo. After a short drive and our arrival we’ll explore and admire another stuning art masterpiece, this time an Otoman remnant - the 15th century decorated mosque. Lunch in National restaurant and possibility to taste some local specialities. Follows a bus drive to Ohrid. On the way we’ll be passing by the place of origin of the Famous Danish cook Rene Redzepi owner of Noma and Christianshavn. After the arrival on the banks of Ohrid lake, which is UNECO protected, we will visit Kalshta Monstery with its cave church and many icons who are believed to have healing powers. Drive to Ohrid, accommodation, dinner and overnight.
Day 3 – Ohrid with boat tour to St Naum
After breakfast we’ll visit Ohrid old town for sightseeing tour where we will enter the St Sophia Cathédral, the Antic Theatre, the Samoil Fortress, the Mother of God Perivleptos Church and the Plaoshnik complex. At the end of the walking tour we’ll emerge on the cliff of St. John Kaneo church to experience one of the most magnificent views in Ohrid. Lunch in local fisherman village Kaneo. Going out from the old town we’ll embark on a boat tour to St Naum Monastery for sightseeing of the monestery and a boats ride on the springs of River Drim. We return to Ohrid with the same ship afterwards and to hotel for refreshment. When the time comes we’ll enjoy a dinner in national restaurant with live music and folklore show. Overnight in hotel in Ohrid.
Day 4 – Ohrid – Prespa - Prilep - Bitola
Breakfast at hotel and departure to Prespa where we will visit a private Etno Musuem and will learn about the Macedonian traditional costumes and way of life. The tour continues with one hour drive to Prilep, where we’ll visit the picturesque monastery Treskavec settled on the hill overlooking the whole plain (with minibus only). Lunch in local restaurant afterwards. After lunch we’ll ahve a short drive to Bitola – the City of Consuls. Bitola was an important center during Ottoman Empire. Today only the central part of the city kept the old charm who we’ll notice while enjoying a leisure walk on the pedestrian street. Accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Bitola – Edessa – Pella – Naussa
Breakfast at hotel. First thing to be visited today will be the archeology site of Heraclea which represents the remains of the antic city build by Philip II and represents the power and society state of development of the Macedonians in antic times. We continue our way cross-border to Greece and to the city of Edessa where we’ll enjoy lunch in a local restaurant overlooking the beautiful waterfall nearby. After lunch we drive to Pella archeological complex, which is UNESCO protected and considered as birthplace of Alexander the Great, for a walking tour of the site and the visit of the Archeological Museum there. After Pella we continue with a short drive towards Naoussa. Arrival in Naoussa, accommodation in hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 6 Naussa – Veria – Vergina – Thessaloniki
After breakfast we’ll do a short drive to Vergina, a UNESCO protected Archeological complex, where we will visit the royal tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Lunch in local restaurant afterwards. continuing our drive to Thessaloniki. Upon arrival we’ll start with sightseeing tour of Thessaloniki. Our walking tour will start from the old Byzantian fortress gate which is up on the hill, overlooking the city. From here we’ll enjoy the beautiful panorama of the city. Walking down the narrow and charming streets the visit of Oseos David church follows. Here we’ll witness one of the most authentic types of frescoes that captivates the teenage years of Christ. We continue with the visits of St Demitrious church, the Rotonda church and Aristoteles Square afterwards. After the sightseeing we’ll accommodate in hotel, have dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Thessaloniki – Athos cruise
Breakfast at hotel. Early departure to Ouranopulis from where we will embark on a boat cruise around Mount Athos which represents a mystic religious sanctuary that is closed for public visits. After the boat cruise we’ll have lunch in local Tavern restaurant in Ouranopulis. We’ll drive back to our hotel in Thessaloniki for refreshment and for and organized dinner in Thessaloniki - Ladadika night life area. During the dinner we’ll enjoy a live music performance. Return to hotel for overnight overnight.
Day 8 Thessaloniki
Breakfast at hotel. Free time for shopping until departure to airport.
